Research

I am a joint degree student pursuing a Master of Environmental Science at the Yale School of the Environment and a Juris Doctorate at the Yale Law School. I am interested in conservation biology, climate change, and evolution. My research looks at the effects of climate change on a predator-prey system. Through this and other projects, I hope to examine dynamic systems under stress. I aim to couple these findings of changing systems with my legal training to craft conservation recommendations that conserve ecological structure and function.

Previous Experience

As an undergraduate, I worked in the lab of Dr. David Christianson at the University of Arizona. I analyzed bear fecal samples to assess nutritional habits and stress responses. The project assessed the variability of bear diet and the bears' response to human proximity. I also volunteered extensively with the University of Arizona Chapter of the Fish and Wildlife Club assisting graduate students with the tracking, tagging, and surveying of fish and mammal species across Arizona.

In law school, I have pursued writing projects on the Endangered Species Act. I have focused on shortcomings in current definitions of species concepts and the geographic limitations of the act. As a law student, I interned with the Washington State Attorney General representing the Department of Ecology and the United States Environment Protection Agency. These experiences have given me a foundation in environmental law to think about conservation challenges from perspectives beyond species-specific legislation.
