ResearchI am interested in understanding and mitigating the effects of anthropogenic climate change on the environment. These effects can take many forms, such as recruiting invasive species, shifting the ranges of native species, and altering the nutrient compositions of ecosystems. To make effective conservation and restoration decisions, it is critical to first understand the dynamics of an ecosystem in order to grasp the consequences of existing disturbances and possible interventions. I investigate how climate can facilitate plant invasions and the trophic implications of those invasions using a local grassland system containing invasive mugwort, resident grasshoppers, and their spider predators.

Previous Experience
As an undergraduate at Occidental College, I spent two summers at the La Selva Biological Station in Costa Rica with Drs. Elizabeth Braker and Gretchen North. I set up long-term observation plots to investigate phenotypic plasticity in a locally dominant tree species.
Post graduation, I worked in Dr. Yvonne Chen’s lab at UCLA studying cancer immunotherapy treatments. I performed pre-clinical research for using genetically modified T cells to treat leukemia and lymphoma, which culminated in the FDA approval of a Phase I clinical trial.
After my foray into cell biology, I promptly spent four months as a field volunteer at the Palmyra Atoll National Wildlife Refuge working on the Palmyra Atoll Rainforest Realignment Project. And subsequently performed ecological monitoring at recently revegetated wildfire sites in Northern California.
